$1M for furthering French Language promotion in New Brunswick disguised as grants for Arts, Culture & Heritage!!

Here you go - go ahead and count the French programs/museums/festivals receiving funding, the scale is way out of balance folks -- and look at the support for Official Languages funding -- not an English endeavor in the list! (English funding is highlighted in red) I got this info from the Heritage Canada website: The following are the projects that are part of this announcement for the cultural sector in New Brunswick: Canada Arts Presentation Fund The Canada Arts Presentation Fund is designed to give Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals and performances, and other artistic experiences. •RADARTS 2010-2011 programming, Caraquet - $115,500 •Théâtre Capitol Theatre 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons, Moncton - $102,000 •48e Festival acadien de Caraquet, Caraquet - $96,766 •Festival Frye 2011, Moncton - $60,000 •L'Estival du Théâtre populaire d'Acadie, Caraquet - $52,280 •Production de l'Étoile inc., Sé...

Enforced Bilingual Signs in Monkeytown?

You know what it is they want? They want all the people who don't speak French to leave. That's basically it. Yeah, I'll put up a "bilingual" sign on my shop: English and Gaelic. There its bilingual. Now the French Police can go shit in their collective hats. I don't speak French. *GASP!* Bilingual signage isn't going "to distinguish Moncton as an inclusive and diverse community" -- first you need to educate the bigoted, small minded people who haven't travelled more than 2 hours out of Monkeytown their entire lives who hate EVERYTHING different regardless of what language they speak themselves.. You want to attract tourism? I work in the tourism industry -- you better be putting up Japanese, Punjabi and German signs, my friend because those are the languages spoken by most of the tourists I've met in the last 5 years

Isolate special needs kids?

Just read a super eye-opening article with my coffee about a child with Asperger's syndrome who was put into an isolation room at school. The kid is 7 years old. Well this is what I think of that!! Good grief!! Put the aggressive child in an isolation room to let him "let out the frustration or behaviour" all by himself????!!!! With a WINDOW so the TA can make sure he doesn't hurt himself??!! He's not an animal, he's a 7 year old boy --- how about training the TA's to help him vent his frustration through art, singing or physical movement like dancing or jumping jacks? Poor kid, putting him in isolation can only be increasing his frustration. It certainly doesn't help his self-esteem or help him learn how to channel that energy in ways which are less destructive!! When the school board made the decision to integrate special needs children instead of putting them in a designated class (like they did in the 70's when I went to school), they really ne...

Prayer won't help find Donna O'Reilly?

Neither will complaining about those who pray! The atheist brain-trusts, running down the power of prayer on a media message board got me thinking... How insensitive for those of you to say prayer won't help. You should be ashamed of your selfish selves. Prayer does indeed work in wondrous ways for those who believe. For those who don't believe, of course it won't work because you don't believe it will. It really is that simple. It all comes down to belief. Thoughts are things, and they carry a lot of impact. Impact which includes your negativity directed at a family in this most dire and heartaching of circumstances. For pete's sakes, keep your selfish, judgemental thoughts to yourself. This is not a time to stand on your atheist pedestal. I am non-Christian, and I don't see the point in condemning or ridiculing anyone who is, and who puts value in their prayers. Namaste - Peace - God(dess) Bless

And the French/English thing rages on!!!

This one is downright STUPID however!! Oh for pete's sakes, CBC, you publish bad grammar, bad spelling, and accusatory comments all the time, yet you censor one of my comments that just states the plain truth anyone can see in black and white on this page. Suppose the censor is Acadian too? And speaks English just as well as I do? Quote Carrier from the above ---" He said those people would change their tune if they were trying to get help and had no idea what was going on." The difference is SHE DID KNOW . She spoke English on the radio. I heard her. She spoke it as well as an English born person would! "Carrier said it's not fair to say people should just be grateful to get medical care, regardless of what language it's in." In this case yes it is! Did he even read the details of the circumstances that evening? Their usual doctor wasn't available so they called someone else in TO COVER FOR THEM . It was either English speaking doctor, or NO DOCT...

75 Grand, you've got to be kidding!!

The NB Provincial government has just announced their latest brain trust idea -- make immigrants pay $75K to the province when they come here to start their own business. Ok, now that just confirms our government has indeed, lost their minds. (if we didn't think so before) As someone who has been very close to immigrant family experiences, who have endured: -the wait, -the expenses, -the run-around, -the "hurry up and wait", -the "we need skilled immigrants but ...your credentials are no good in our country" doublespeak, -watched life savings dwindle while waiting for Landed Immigrant Status -endured racism (even as a white American) -endured substandard housing -endured shoddy workmanship in our fields that passes for ok in New Brunswick, but would never be accepted where we come from -wondered if it would have been better off "landing ashore and claiming refugee status" -endured the crap in "the Underground Economy" -endured employers who...
