75 Grand, you've got to be kidding!!
The NB Provincial government has just announced their latest brain trust idea -- make immigrants pay $75K to the province when they come here to start their own business.
Ok, now that just confirms our government has indeed, lost their minds. (if we didn't think so before)
As someone who has been very close to immigrant family experiences, who have endured:
-the wait,
-the expenses,
-the run-around,
-the "hurry up and wait",
-the "we need skilled immigrants but ...your credentials are no good in our country" doublespeak,
-watched life savings dwindle while waiting for Landed Immigrant Status
-endured racism (even as a white American)
-endured substandard housing
-endured shoddy workmanship in our fields that passes for ok in New Brunswick, but would never be accepted where we come from
-wondered if it would have been better off "landing ashore and claiming refugee status"
-endured the crap in "the Underground Economy"
-endured employers who violate human labour laws
-the strain and stress of the whole process, and how it affects the rest of the family
YES! Let's do it all over again, start our own business and blow another $75,000!!
Let's try to start something good and fair in an economically depressed area where "screw it for now" and "that will do for now" and "I'm working under the table for 15 bucks an hour and not paying anything to the government" is the way of life!!
Not to mention the whole language issue.....! In New Brunswick, you need to learn not one but TWO new languages in order to get anywhere!! And because all the other people who emigrated from your country have left the province, you have no peer support.
