Judge Not?
My comments on the woman who lost her disability benefits because of a few photos of her on vacation posted on Facebook-----
Just like the example of the heart attack patient seen walking on the beach, and having fun with friends after being sick.... or the arthritis patient able to get up and move without pain.... a person with fibromyalgia able to do tai-chi..someone paralysed from an accident who can finally walk a little with help..
and they're all applauded and given pats on the back of course.
but don't let the clinically depressed be seen feeling better!!!!!!
All this criticism makes me so angry.
Here's a scenario for comparison:
My father had out of control diabetes. Four times a day he had to check his blood sugar and adjust his diet accordingly. His blood sugar levels were never the same. My dad loved sweets, especially licorice.. Once in a while, if his sugars stayed under 8 for a day, he might have a piece of licorice --- was his diabetes cured? No.
Did anyone ever judge him? No.
Think about it.
Until YOU have had personal experience with depression, especially with someone who's unstable, been hospitalized, cannot work, cannot even get out of bed, feed and clothe themselves --- you have no right to judge. Brain chemistry being what it is, some days are better than others. I know of someone who actually CANCELLED a lovely trip to the Bahamas because they were that depressed they couldn't even pack for the trip..
